Government plans to withdraw mobility component for people living in residential homes
Wiltshire and Swindon Users’ Network were one of many organisations that campaigned against Government plans to withdraw mobility component for people living in residential homes. Maria Miller, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Disabled people stated in a written statement “Having listend to the concerns raised and carefully considered the evidence, the Government will now table an amendment to the Welfare Reform Bill for consideration at Lords Report stage to remove the provision which allows for withdrawal of the mobility component of personal independence payment from residential care home residents.”
We would like to thank our members who contributed to the consultation and helped us to submit a collective response. As a result of the high level campaigns, the Low Review launched in July 2011, recommended the retention of the mobility component!
